Creating safety –
acting sustainably
Safe, secure, sustainable: this conceptual triad has characterized DEKRA's business thinking and actions for almost 100 years. Ultimately, this already applies to the period directly after the founding of the Deutsche Kraftfahrzeug-Überwachungs-Verein (German Motor Vehicle Inspection Association) on June 30, 1915 in Berlin with the “purpose of [...] supporting and promoting the operational and road safety of motor vehicles [...], the corresponding in relation to other systems and equipment and research in these areas” as laid down in the articles of association. After all, safe vehicles are an essential prerequisite for road traffic with as few injuries or fatalities as possible. Road safety therefore means sustainability in the best sense of the word. This still applies today. “Vision Zero” is an integral part of road safety work worldwide, and the United Nations also explicitly declared ‘road safety’ to be one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in its ‘Agenda 2030’ adopted in 2015.
The mobility sector has changed rapidly over the last 100 years - and the wheel is turning ever faster in this respect. DEKRA is developing the necessary testing, inspection and certification services for motor vehicles itself and is also supporting companies in the mobility sector with its expertise. This applies, for example, to issues of automotive cyber security in the context of connected and automated driving as well as to the challenges associated with alternative drive concepts such as electric and hydrogen. In short: as a global market leader in vehicle testing, DEKRA is proactively shaping the mobility of the future.
