Sustainable energy management

DEKRA in Germany is setting standards for the entire DEKRA Region Germany, Switzerland & Austria with two lighthouse projects. In April 2024, the new building of the DEKRA Automobil GmbH branch in Ingolstadt was opened. Sustainable aspects played a central role in its construction. For example, parts of the façade and roof area were greened and fitted with photovoltaic systems and wooden elements. Intelligent lighting control, a heat pump and smart meters contribute to the building's energy efficiency. In addition, charging points for electric vehicles were implemented to improve the charging infrastructure.

For its part, the Wart location with its Congress Center and Congress Hotel is implementing sustainability measures in its day-to-day dealings with customers and visitors. The focus here is also on social and communicative aspects such as information on the regionality and sustainability of the products used, transparency about supported national and global sustainability projects and raising awareness among guests and customers by encouraging them to conserve resources. In addition, the roofs of all buildings have been fitted with photovoltaic systems and a total of 14 charging points for electric vehicles have been installed. The Congress Hotel Wart also received the “Greensign Hotel Level 5” certificate as a climate-neutral hotel.

Putting sustainability into practice is a daily challenge - and is particularly important for the largest single company in the DEKRA Group. Our actions have a major influence here. In the GSA region and at DEKRA Automobil GmbH in particular, numerous dedicated colleagues are working on this important progress. One example of this is the NL Support | Process Management & Organization team, led by Simon Vogel, which is representative of this commitment:

As a project specialist for sustainability at DEKRA Automobil GmbH, I lead the project to implement our energy management system according to ISO 50001. The goal is to establish strategic and procedural structures to ensure the responsible and efficient use of energy in our company. In addition, I support our „DEKRA Lighthouse Locations“ in the GSA region – the branch Ingolstadt and the Congress Center and Hotel in Wart – in ensuring their role model function in the sustainable use of building materials, innovative technologies and social initiatives. Insights gained from these projects are incorporated into standards for new buildings and measures to promote social responsibility.

As a project specialist at DEKRA Automobil GmbH, I am responsible for the project to set up a charging infrastructure at our DEKRA-Automobil locations. I consult and support our branches in the regional creation of a charging infrastructure for our electrified vehicle fleet. I also support our branches in the installation of photovoltaic systems by acting as a communication interface between the headquarter and the branches. The aim here is to cover as much of our own consumption as possible through the generation of photovoltaic systems.
